Baked Apple Donuts with Caramel Glaze Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1¾ cups flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup apple sauce
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ cup heavy cream or milk
  • Carmel Glaze:
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • additional powdered sugar to sprinkle on top
Instructions
  1. preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. grease 2 donut pans (makes 12)
  3. in large bowl mix flour, sugar, oil, apple sauce, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla together until well combine
  4. add milk or heavy cream to mixture
  5. mix until combined
  6. fill donut pans ¾ the way full
  7. bake at 350 for 11-15 min
  8. let cool 15 min. then remove from pan and place on cooling rack
  9. Glaze:
  10. in small sauce pan add butter, milk and brown sugar on cook on medium heat
  11. cook until just starts to bubble
  12. whisk in sugar and vanilla
  13. turn down to low heat and whisk until powdered sugar has dissolved
  14. let cool for 15 min. (I make this while they are baking)
  15. dip the top of each donut into the caramel and put back on cooling rack
  16. sprinkle each donut with powdered sugar
  17. let cool then serve
