First time making these and my whole family loved them!! So easy to make using apple sauce and way healthier than fried. They taste like fall with the apple, cinnamon, vanilla and caramel. The apple sauce makes them really moist too.
You can use any apple sauce that you have on hand. I only had the kids snack size, so I used one apple sauce that was unsweetened and one that was sweetened with cinnamon added. I also think they taste much better when cooled completely, I put mine in the fridge for 15 before I served them.
Just fill them about 3/4 of the way full.
Just dip the donuts into the cooled caramel glaze and place back on the rack.
- 1¾ cups flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup apple sauce
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ½ cup heavy cream or milk
- Carmel Glaze:
- 2 teaspoons butter
- 4 tablespoons milk
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- additional powdered sugar to sprinkle on top
- preheat oven to 350 degrees
- grease 2 donut pans (makes 12)
- in large bowl mix flour, sugar, oil, apple sauce, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla together until well combine
- add milk or heavy cream to mixture
- mix until combined
- fill donut pans ¾ the way full
- bake at 350 for 11-15 min
- let cool 15 min. then remove from pan and place on cooling rack
- Glaze:
- in small sauce pan add butter, milk and brown sugar on cook on medium heat
- cook until just starts to bubble
- whisk in sugar and vanilla
- turn down to low heat and whisk until powdered sugar has dissolved
- let cool for 15 min. (I make this while they are baking)
- dip the top of each donut into the caramel and put back on cooling rack
- sprinkle each donut with powdered sugar
- let cool then serve
Love the flavors in these, and that glaze, wow!!
Thanks, the glaze soaks right into the donuts and makes they extra moist.
Would these freeze well after they are baked and glazed?
They can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thanks.
