I kept seeing the vanilla eggs like this on Pinterest, so I made my own. Of course I had to make CHOCOLATE ones, and I used my favorite chocolate chip cookie dough recipe. I love that there is no baking, just freezing, so easy!! These have been tested by my husband and he approves very much!
I used my cookie scooper and put them on the cookie sheet. Then I shaped them into the eggs….. freeze for at least 2 hours. I melted the chocolate almond bark and dipped the eggs in with a fork, don’t forget to give them a shake to get the extra chocolate off. Once they have set, break the extra chocolate off the edges.
Buy colored candy melts and follow instructions on bag or add the food coloring to the white almond bark and drizzle it on with a fork. (a spoon did not work too well)
If you can’t find Almond Bark at the grocery store you can also use Candiquik, most stores carry one or the other.
- ½ cup soft butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cups flour
- 2 teaspoons milk
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
- chocolate almond bark ( I used about ¾ of a 24oz package)
- white almond bark ( I used 6 squares of a 24 oz package) or colored candy melts
- food coloring
- In large bowl cream together butter and brown sugar. Add vanilla, salt, flour, milk and powdered sugar. Mix until well combined, add chocolate chips.
- Scoop dough into 1 inch balls and shape into eggs on a parchment paper lined pan.
- Freeze for at least 2 hours.
- After 2 hours, melt the chocolate almond bark according to the package.
- Dip each frozen egg into the chocolate, shake off extra and put on parchment paper, let dry.
- Melt white almond bark and add food coloring, then drizzle over chocolate egg using a fork.
- I used 2 squares of almond bark and 1 drop of food coloring for each color I made.

I’ve been dreaming of making a treat similar to these, but haven’t gotten around to it. These are perfect for Easter!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much. I wanted to make a simple but delicious dessert for Easter, I couldn’t find eggless cookie dough recipes( a kid at church has an allergy) until i found this.
Glad these will work for you Catherine!
Do these need to be refrigerated after they are finished or can they be stored at room temperature?
They can be stored at room temperature.
I’m making these tonight. I love the taste of the dough. I added some caramel to the top of the dough and froze it like that before the choc goes on. It reminds me of one of my fav candy bars toll house used to make like 10 yrs ago. Thanks so much for the idea I can’t wait to try them :-)
The caramel on top sounds amazing, I will have to try that :) I’m so glad you like them!
Do you cook them at all
Hi Denise, It’s a no bake recipe so no baking involved. :)
Is this still raw cookie dough? Risk of eating while pregnant?
Nope, there is no egg so you can eat as much as you want :)
what a cute idea! We’ll be adding these to our list of Easter goodies to make.
Thanks Emily, I hope you enjoy them!
Can you just melt chocolate chips for the coating??
Hi Jenn, Chocolate Chips can be substituted but you need to temper the chocolate properly or it won’t set up right. Here is a link to a website with a tutorial on how to melt chocolate chips: http://www.chocolates-made-easy.com/Melting-Chocolate-Chips.html
How long do these stay good? A couple of days at least?
I have kept them in the fridge for at least 4-5 days until they are all eaten :)
YUM!! Who doesn’t LOVE cookie dough?! http://emilymcdo.weebly.com/home/my-daily-thought
Such a good idea! Anything that gives you another excuse to work cookie dough into a recipe is an amazing thing. Thank you!
Have you tried heat treated flour? I saw a cook had used it ages ago, but don’t know where to get it. It said it was to kill the listeria that can be in raw flour.
Hi, I know you can do it yourself in the microwave or the oven. You can just heat your oven to 180-200 degrees and bake the flour for a few minutes, just make sure you stir it around every minute or so. Here is a link to microwaving it: http://www.howtocakethat.com/how-to-pasteurize-flour.html Hope this helps!
I have also seen on Tasty that you can spread flour (they used 2 cups) on a baking sheet and heat it in the oven for 5 minutes at 350 degrees to kill bacteria
Thanks, yes I have seen that also :)
Here’s hoping these will travel well. Making and sending to my son who loves chocolate chip cookie dough, Will make a cute Easter goodie for him. Thanks
I think they should travel will, as long as it’s not somewhere super hot. Hope the enjoys them :)
Can you take a short cut and just use a premade roll of chocolate chip cookie dough?
No, because store bought dough contains raw egg so it’s not safe to eat.
Can these be made ahead of time and frozen?
Sure. Just seal them well and give them a few hours to thaw before serving.
What type of chocolate chips do you find tastes best? I have dark and semisweet at home. However, I’m thinking of going get milk chocolate!
Hi Abby! I’m not picky when it comes to chocolate :) but I would guess milk or semisweet would be my first choices. Happy Easter!
Can almond milk be used in this recipe?
Hi Ann, yes that would be fine.
