This corn is crazy good!!!! I’m making it for Thanksgiving this year. Super easy!
Just dump everything in the crockpot and serve after a few hours. My only tip is to push any little pieces of corn that are stuck to the sides down into the mixture so they don’t burn. This is great reheated also.
By the way frozen corn comes in all size bags, so just grab 2 bags of corn. You need about 20-30 ounces of corn for this. You can easily double this recipe if your having a huge crowd for Thanksgiving like I am (About 40 people).
If you want to use canned corn, no need to cook it so long, just until everything is heated and melted.
If you wanted to make this in the oven, put the corn in an oven safe dish. Put all the other ingredients in a sauce pan over medium heat, once the sauce is melted pour it over the corn, stir, and then bake covered at 325 for an hour.
- 20-30 oz of frozen corn
- 1 cream cheese 8 oz
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup milk or half half
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon of pepper (or to taste)
- Put all the ingredients in the crockpot. Cook on high 2-4 hours or low 4-6. Stir after about an hour.
Oh my gosh!!! This has got to be the BEST creamed corn I have ever had!!
Thanks Beth, I’m glad you liked it!
Hi can I make it in a steampot also
I’m not sure about a steam pot, but you could make it in a regular pot on the stove top or even in an oven if you covered it. You just would need to cut the cook time down. Hope this helps.
I have a recipe tried and try I use which is like that but add pieces of American cheese to it!! So great …
Thanks. Glad you liked it! I will have to try it with the cheese.
Do you think this will be good too keep overnight?
Hi Karina. Yes should keep well overnight.
Im an old man who wants to make this for church dinner. I want to make a 6 quart crock pot full. How much corn does it take to for that? Can I just divide 20 ounce bag of corn by 6 qts aka 192 ounces making it almost 10 bags of corn minus 2 bags to make room for the creamed cheese etc etc?????
Hi Wayne, I would double or triple the recipe but I would not do more then that. You don’t want to fill the crock pot all the way to the top, it needs room to simmer. Also if your making a larger batch it will need more time to cook. Thank you.
Curious if you know what changes to cooking time and possibly the recipe itself, would be required to use uncooked kernals cut off fresh farm cobs? Thank You!
Hi, I would just say to cook it on the low end of the times so check it after 2 hours on high or 4 hours on low. I will have to try it with the fresh corn, I’m sure it’s way better.
Thanks! I had also wanted to ask if you have ever frozen & reheated, and if so, what were the results?
Sorry, I have never tried that before. If you do, let me know how it turns out.
I made this for Thanksgiving one year and had leftovers. I divided them up into smaller containers, froze them and they heated up just fine in the microwave.
I’m glad you were able to freeze the leftovers and reheat them. Great idea. Thanks for taking the time to comment, we appreciate it.
This looks absolutely mouth-watering! Quick question: Could I sub the milk with heavy whipping cream?
Hi Matt, I’ve never tried that but I don’t see why it wouldn’t be okay. Would probably even be better, let me know how it turns out if you try.
I used heavy whipping cream in mine the second time. Just makes it richer.
Thanks for letting me know. To my horror I only have heavy whipping cream in the fridge and today’s is the pot luck. You saved me!
Hi Karen, Hope the recipe worked out for you. It’s one of our favorites! Thanks for taking the time to comment, we appreciate it!
When fixing in the crock pot the day before how well does it do when re heated?
Sorry I have never tried doing that. I have microwaved leftovers when I’ve made it and I thought they were good.
Has anyone made this the night before and reheated?
Hi Angela. I think that would be fine. Maybe cook it 3/4 of the way at night and the other 1/4 in the morning. Just make sure you give it enough time to heat back up in the morning if you are using the crock pot.
when we make this we add finely diced chilies, and jalopenios. adds a nice zip.
Sounds yummy, I will have to try that next time!
How many servings does this yield?
It should make a minimum of 5 cups of corn if you use 30 ounces of corn, so depending on your serving size, I would say at least 10 people if they each had a half cup serving. Hope this helps!
Hi! I am wanting to make this for a dinner this Thursday night, and I can’t wait to try it! I am thinking I will need to double the recipe since there will be a lot of people coming. How long should I cook it to double the recipe?
Hi Lauren, Just cook it on the longer side of the range, so 3-4 hours on high or 5-6 on low.
Do you use salted or unsalted butter?
Hi Emily. Use salted butter if you have it. If you only have unsalted butter on hand then add another 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the recipe.
I made this last year and froze it and it came out perfect.
Hello! Do you use sweet corn or regular?
I usually use frozen sweet corn, but I have just used what ever is on sale too. This recipe has not disappointed me yet :)
Can you use canned corn? If so does it need to be drained first?
Yes you can use canned, and yes make sure you drain it first :)
This corn is the best!!!!!! Made it today. Family loved them…thank you
Glad you liked it :)
Did you thaw the corn first or just put it in the crockpot frozen?
Hi Diane, You can just put it in there frozen.
So any thoughts on how this may freeze once it’s made? Would love to make this as opposed to buying at the store and if I could make it in bulk and portion it out that would be perfect! Looks delicious!
Theoretically it should freeze no problem, but you never know. If you give it a try and it works please let me know. Thanks!
I was curious about this as well… did you try freezing it?
I have not tried it yet, but I will let you know how it works out when I do.
Your pictures seem much thicker than mine seems to be turning out. Got a clue as to why?
Hmmm, not sure why. When I took the picture it was room temperature, so it did thicken up a little. Next time you could try only adding 1/3 cup butter and 1/3 cup milk.
Do you really have to cook it for 2 hours ?
If your using frozen corn, yes. If you thaw beforehand in the fridge then you could get away with an hour on high. If you very short on time, you could take all the ingredients (except the corn) and cook until melted in a pot on the stove top on medium heat. Microwave the corn or cook it according to the package and then just mix the cooked corn in the pot and serve.
Oh my goodness! this was yummy! I made it for dinner to go with the salmon I caught today, with the thought I would use the leftovers in my corn bread casserole I’m making tomorrow. Hope I have enough…my husband just ate a huge bowl of it :-)
Hi Hope! Glad you liked it & congrats on catching salmon today! yum! Have a Happy Easter!
What would this recipe be for 40 people?
I would say to multiply all the ingredients by either 3 or 4 times and you should be fine. Hope this helps.
I would add another hour to the cooking also.
1 ½ tablespoons each.
Can I use canned corn
Yes, just make sure you drain the juice out of the cans.
Looks fantastic! I’m just wondering if it might be too sweet. 1 tablespoon of sugar sounds like a lot
Well try less or none at all, you can always add it in later. I have made it several times as is and everyone has loved it. Let me know how it works out. Happy Thanksgiving
The sugar doesn’t make it too sweet at all! I made this today and everyone loved it as is
So glad you liked it!
I made this for a potluck at my job and everyone loved it! Everyone asked me for the recipe!!
Thanks! Happy Thanksgiving
I inadvertently grabbed 2 bags of super sweet white corner Trader Joe’s today. Wondering if I should omit the sugar or just go buy yellow corn instead.
Hi Joy. Go ahead and use the corn you bought and leave out the sugar. You can try it about a half hour before it’s done and see if it still needs the sugar, and if it does just add it in.
Thank you very much!
I make this as often as I can stand to eat it. Delicious!!
Thanks, I’m so glad you like it!
Added some chopped green chile and jalapenos. Yum !
Sounds great, I will have to try that!
Can this be made in an instant pot?
Yes as long as you use the slow cooker setting on it. I’m not sure if it has a high and low setting for the slow cooking (I can’t find my manual that came with it). Just keep and eye on it after an hour and half, you may need to switch it to the warm setting after that.
I want to double this recipe since there will be 15 people at our house for Thanksgiving this year and we love corn. Should I double everything? Like 60 oz of corn, 16 oz of cream cheese, 1 cup butter, 1 cup milk, 2 tbsp sugar, etc? Also, if using frozen corn, won’t the corn thaw out in the crockpot and water everything down because of the melted ice? thanks!
Hi Katie. Just go ahead and double everything, you may want to add 30 mins on to the cook time. Don’t worry about the frozen corn, it will be just right. You don’t want it too thick, it should be nice and creamy. Happy Thanksgiving!
What kind of sugar did you use for the recipe ?
Hi. Just use regular white sugar.
This is my go to!! So good!! And I share it with everyone! Never heard of anyone being disappointed! I am trying it in my instant pot today. Will let you know how it goes!
I’m so glad you like it! Let me know about the instant pot! Thanks
I doubled the recipe and added a little extra half and half. I was worried there wasn’t enough liquid. 15 min on manual. Best turn out we’ve had!! I will always do it this way now!!
Good to know!
This was a very pleasant surprise for Christmas dinner 2018 when our daughter replaced our standard Kentucky Sweet Corn Pudding with your Crock Pot Cream Corn. A pic of the results and our story are at: http://micuisine.com/lunapiercook/?p=5394 Thanks for such a nice dish!
We had this for Easter Sunday. It was delicious. Some people were afraid it was going to taste like canned creamed corn. NOT even close. We all loved it! I also love how easy it is to throw in the slow cooker and then you don’t have to do another thing except stir it and serve.
Hi Marilyn, I’m so glad you guys enjoyed it! Thanks!
This is the most amazing creamed corn! It’s one that I now cook for my family at cookouts and holidays. I even cooked in a large cast iron pot which turned out awesome. It’s the best and my family loves it!
Thank you Tracy, I’m so glad you like it!!
I hate to even ask this but I am dieting and plan on taking this to friends for Thanksgiving who are also dieting. How would it turn out if I used the lower fat version of cream cheese and half & half?
Hi Bonnie, I think that will work no problem. I would even use skim milk and add a few spoonfuls of fat free sour cream. Let us know how it turns out. Thanks!
This is so close to recipe I made up 20 years ago….except I add onion in mine gives it such flavor I also try a few pieces of bacon to use the grease to mix with bread crumbs I top the shoe thing with Swiss cheese and then bread crumbs and bake it…I have had to make this every year on holidays since…
Hi Stacey, That sounds amazing! I will have to try making it like that next time.
About 2 years ago I came across this recipe and from the very first time my family fell in love with it. Every birthday, holiday, family dinner everyone begs me to make it. Thank you!!!!
Thanks, I’m so glad you guys love it!
If I use 16oz bag of corn do I still use the same amount of ingredients?
Yes, it will just be a little more creamy.
I made it and it was delicious. I am making it for thanksgiving but I’m doing 48oz of corn hoe much more ingredient should I add?
Hi, I’m so glad you like it! You should be fine just doubling the rest of the ingredients. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you so much! Happy thanksgiving!!!
Love it!!!
Best recipe!
It’s my husband’s favorite thing I make him
Hi Tatum, So glad you and your husband love the recipe. Thanks for taking the time to comment, we appreciate it!
What size crockpot should be used for this recipe?
I use a 7 quart crock pot, the average size is 5-7 quarts for crock pots. It might fit in a 4 quart but I don’t have one so I’ve never tried it.
Have you ever used frozen white corn?
Yes, any color corn will work well.
I am planning on baking this in the oven, what temperature would you suggest? and how long should I bake it. I am also using drained can corn instead of frozen.
I would take all the ingredients except the corn and warm/melt them on stovetop or microwave, then mix the corn in (you could to this the night before too) and then bake at 325 for 20-30 min or until hot. Hope this helps
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving.
