We have a family cabin in Northern Wisconsin where all of my in laws get together for a week every summer. This year my mother in law didn’t make it up there so she overnighted a chocolate chip banana bread bundt cake to us. It was SO GOOD!! It was gone in 10 minutes, but I wanted more. I ended up making it the day we got home from vacation and here it is.
I actually think this is easier than regular banana bread, only one pan to clean instead of 2 or 3.
A potato masher works great to mash the bananas. This cakes pretty flexible, you can leave it plain, add chips, walnuts or both. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, drizzle with chocolate or cream cheese frosting…..it all sounds so yummy!
- For Dusting the Pan:
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- For The Banana Bread:
- 6 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1-1/2 cups white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- ⅔ cup chocolate chips or walnuts (optional)
- powdered sugar for sprinkling on top
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees
- Grease bundt pan. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon. Dust pan lightly with cinnamon and sugar mixture. It should stick easily with the sides greased.
- In a large bowl, mix butter and sugar together. Stir in eggs, mashed bananas, sour cream, vanilla and cinnamon. Mix in baking soda and flour. Stir in chips or nuts if you are adding them. Pour in to prepared pan.
- Bake for 50-60 mins or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool for 30 mins then turn out on cooling rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Omg what a great and easy recipe!!! I made two this morning and served them within hours. I made one with chocolate chips and walnuts and the other plain (just in case of nut allergies). Only three slices left out of two cakes! Prep was quick and easy and I love the outter crust and the fact that it doesnt call for a bunch of butter or sugar!!! I LOVE THIS RECIPE!!! THANKS SEMISWEET SISTERS!!!!!!
