Powdered Sugar Baked Donut Holes made in a mini muffin tin pan.
If you know me then you know I am a big fan of making all different kinds of baked donuts! My donut pans have gotten a lot of use over the years. I’ve always been a big fan of donut holes too, powdered sugar, cinnamon & sugar covered, glazed, etc. I used to buy them at the store years ago but now I only eat homemade baked donuts. You can make some at home too using a mini muffin pan.
Recipe made 19 donut holes for me, varies depending on what size you make them and the mini muffin pan you use. For the coating I brushed them with melted butter then tossed them in a ziploc bag with powdered sugar to evenly coat them all. I tried rolling the donut holes in a bowl of powdered sugar after brushing but found the ziploc bag method to be faster.
I used a Wilton mini muffin pan that makes up to 24 mini muffins. They also make a cool donut hole pan that makes more rounded donut holes. I really want to get one! To fill the muffin pan I used a small cookie scoop I have, it just helps to make the process faster and to evenly distribute the donut batter, but not necessary.
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil (I used soybean oil)
- 2 Tablespoons melted butter
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- -For Coating-
- 2 Tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- Preheat oven to 350. Grease mini muffin pan with oil or cooking spray.
- Whisk together the sour cream, egg, vanilla, oil, butter, & sugar in a bowl.
- Add flour, soda, salt, & nutmeg (optional) & stir together until well combined.
- Fill mini muffin pan with batter about ⅔rds full & bake for 12-16 minutes or until the sides are turning golden brown. Remove from oven & let cool in pan for 5-10 minutes then transfer to cooling rack.
- For the Coating: Brush melted butter onto donut holes then either roll them around in a bowl of powdered sugar to coat or place in a ziploc bag and shake them to coat with powdered sugar.
