Peeps Blue Moon Easter Shakes.

My daughter came up with this PEEPS idea.  I thought it was super cute! Just make an ice cream shake, top with whipped cream and a peep. If you don’t have or like Blue Moon ice cream, just buy vanilla and add blue food coloring.

  • 4 large scoops Blue Moon ice-cream or vanilla ice-cream and blue food coloring
  • ¼ cup milk
  • whipped cream

Instructions
  1. Blend milk and ice-cream together. Top with whipped cream and add the Peep.

Mint Shamrock Shake

I made this for my friend Heather who loves the McDonalds Shamrock Shakes. In my opinion this one tasted much better than theirs. Plus you can make it anytime of the year, not just for St. Patricks Day. I used Breyers Vanilla Bean ice cream. You could always sub some whole milk, half and half, or heavy cream for a creamier version of this. You can top it with anything you want, whipped cream, sprinkles, hot fudge, or whatever sounds good.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • ¾ cup milk (1 cup for thinner shake)
  • ¼ teaspoon mint extract
  • 5 drops green food coloring (optional)
  • a small pinch of salt
  • whipped cream and cherry (optional)
Instructions
  1. put all ice cream, milk, mint, food coloring and salt in a blender
  2. pour in a glass and add toppings

Layered Red, White, and Blue July 4th Drink (Kid-Friendly)

It’s that time of the year where everything is red, white, & blue & I was feeling patriotic. So, when my sister & niece decided to make those cute Patriotic Strawberry Marshmallows in the picture above I knew I had to make this layered drink to go with them. I first saw this layered drink idea at In Katrina’s Kitchen. Her recipe calls from Sobe Pina Colada for the white but I looked at the grocery stores & gas station & couldn’t find it anywhere so I used Gatorade Glacier-Cherry instead.

red, white, blue drinkAll you need are 3 drinks with different sugar contents. You need one with low/no sugar, one with medium sugar content, & one with high sugar content & lots of ice. Who knew layered drinks where so easy to make?

Sugar content for the drinks I used:
Cranberry Juice……………………..29 grams per 8 fl oz
Gatorade Glacier-Cherry……………13.6 grams per 8 fl oz (approximately)
Gatorade-G2-Blue Pomegranate…..4.6 grams per 8 fl oz (approximately)

Here are a few more options for different drinks you can also use: Hawaiian Punch, Powerade Berry Blast, & Sprite Zero/Diet 7UP.

I found smaller ice works best, I used a mix of regular cubes & crushed. The festive firework straws are from Hobby Lobby.

  • Cranberry or CranApple Juice (Red)
  • Gatorade-Glacier-Cherry (White)
  • Gatorade-G2-Low Calorie-Blue Pomegranate (Blue)
  • Ice
Instructions
  1. Start by filling a glass ⅓ the way with ice/crushed ice. Start with the highest sugar content drink which in this case is the Cranberry. Pour the Cranberry juice ⅓ of the way up.
  2. Next fill the glass all the way to the top with ice.
  3. Take your drink with the medium sugar content (the white Gatorade) and Slowly, Very Slowly pour down over the ice so it runs slowly through the ice, til your glass is ⅔rds full.
  4. Lastly, Slowly pour your blue Gatorade with low or no sugar to the top of the glass.
  5. Enjoy. Happy 4th of July!

This stuff is amazing on a hot summer day/night. It’s my go to drink to bring to get togethers, it’s always gone and everyone wants the recipe.

  • 1.75 L of Simply Lemonade with Raspberry
  • 2 liter or Sierra Mist (any lemon lime soda or ginger ale)
  • ½ bottle of 750 ml coconut rum
  • ice cubes

  1. mix all ingredients in pitcher and serve, or put in a punch bowl

Copycat Rumchata

So my friend Heather is a rumchata drinker, but complained that it was so expensive. I came up with my own recipe for her and she loved it. Super easy too, you should have most things on hand already. As for the milk I think that 2 percent or whole would taste better or you could add a little half and half to some skim milk.

So basically your making the non alcoholic base for the drink then adding in vanilla rum and ice to taste. This makes a small pitcher of rumchata then add 1/2 cup rum and some ice. If you want to make just the base and pour singe drinks, then add a shot (or a half shot)  of rum and half a glass of ice to a glass, the pour base over that until full.

  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup simple syrup ( ½ cup sugar, ½ cup water)
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • a pinch of nutmag (a little goes a long way)
  • Add to your liking:
  • ice
  • vanilla rum
Instructions
  1. first make the simple syrup in a small pan on the stove top with sugar and water a heat on medium heat until sugar is dissolved
  2. let simple syrup cool
  3. in pitcher add milk, syrup, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg.
  4. mix well
  5. add ice and rum to taste (I started with about ½ cup of rum)
  6. serve immediately
