Serves: 18
  • 2 cups oats (quick oats, uncooked)
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1¼ cups applesauce
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except applesauce. Mix until crumbly. Scoop out 1 cup of the mix & set aside. (Your going to use the saved 1 cup of oats mixture to use for topping).
  3. Press the rest of mixture into a greased 9 x 13" pan. Bake 13-15 minutes to partially cook the crust.
  4. Remove from oven & add the 1¼ cups applesauce, take your 1 cup of saved oats mixture & sprinkle over the top.
  5. Place back in the oven & bake for another 13-15 minutes or until it starts to turn a light golden brown. Cool, then cut into squares. Makes about 18 squares.
