Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Icing:
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
  1. preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. grease and flour 10x15 pan
  3. in large bowl combine flour, sugar, soda and salt
  4. beat in sour cream, eggs and vanilla
  5. in medium saucepan melt the butter on low-med heat
  6. add the water and 5 T cocoa powder
  7. bring to a boil then set aside and allow to cool for 5 mins
  8. slowly mix in cocoa mixture to flour mixture on medium until well blended
  9. pour batter into pan and bake for 20 mins at 350
  10. Icing:
  11. In medium saucepan combine butter, milk and cocoa
  12. bring to a boil then remove from heat
  13. stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until well blended (add nuts, optional)
  14. spread frosting onto warm cake and let cool
