Candy Cane Christmas Cookies

Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter soft
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint OR almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2½ cups flour
  • red food coloring
Instructions
  1. In medium size bowl cream sugar and butter together until light and fluffy
  2. beat in egg, peppermint OR almond, vanilla, salt and baking powder
  3. slowly add in flour and mix until combined
  4. remove half of the dough
  5. add red food coloring to the dough left in the bowl and mix until red
  6. preheat oven to 375 degrees
  7. stick red and white dough into the refrigerator for 15-20 min.
  8. roll about a half inch ball of dough in each color into a 4-5 inch rope
  9. twist together and curve the top to make the hook
  10. place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
  11. bake for 9-12 mins
  12. let cool for 20 mins
