Serves: 12
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 Tablespoons (or ¼ cup) vegetable oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup + 1 Tablespoon water
  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, & salt together. Add in oil, milk, & water, & mix it up using a fork. Knead 5-6 times or until you can form a ball.
  2. Cover dough & let it rest for 15-30 minutes (it makes it easier to work with).
  3. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium to medium/high heat.
  4. Break off enough dough to form a 1.5-2" ball (depending on the size you want your tortillas to be).
  5. Place on a floured surface. Flatten slightly with the palm of your hand. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to form a 6-8" diameter. You may need to keep sprinkling the dough with flour so the rolling pin doesn't stick to it. Roll out the dough very thin (it will thicken a bit after you cook it so you want it thin before it goes on the heat).
  6. Place in ungreased skillet for 15-30 seconds or until it starts to blister, then flip it over & cook the other side for the same amount of time.
  7. Transfer to a plate, cover loosely with foil so they stay soft & warm.
  8. Repeat process with the rest of the dough.
  9. If there are leftovers place them in a Ziploc bag & store in the refrigerator. Reheat for a few seconds in the microwave.
