The Best Chewy Frosted Sugar Cookies

  • -Cookie Dough-
  • 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, cut into pieces
  • 6 Tablespoons salted butter, melted
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • -Frosting-
  • 2½ cups powdered sugar
  • 5 Tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 Tablespoons milk
  • -sprinkles for decorating (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with baking mat or parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, & baking powdered together, set aside.
  3. Using a large mixing bowl add sugar, cream cheese & warm melted butter & whisk together. Whisk in oil. Add egg, milk, & vanilla. Whisk until smooth. Add flour mixture & mix with a spoon or rubber spatula until soft dough forms.
  4. Take a large scoop of dough (about 2 Tablespoons worth) & roll into a ball. Place on prepared cookie sheets. Use the bottom of a drinking glass dipped in sugar to flatten dough balls slightly.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 11-13 minutes or until edges are just starting to brown.
  6. To make the frosting combine all 4 ingredients in a mixing bowl & use an electric mixer to mix ingredients until smooth. Once the cookies have cooled spread frosting over tops of cookies.
