Total time:
Serves: 8-12
  • ¾ to 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (I used salted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3½ cups All-Purpose Flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1¼ teaspoons salt
  • Topping:
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
  1. Mix and knead all of the ingredients together — by hand, stand mixer, or bread machine — to make a soft, smooth dough (about 5-10 min. of kneading)
  2. **Start with the ¾ cup water, add more if dough is still too dry, in summer months you need less water, in winter months you usually need more**.
  3. Cover and let rise for 1 to 2 hours, or until it's nearly double in size.
  4. Divide dough into 8-12 pieces, depending on how big you want them (I made 12).
  5. Shape each piece into a ball; flatten to about 3" across. Place on a greased cookie sheet and let rise for about an hour or until noticeably puffy.
  6. Brush the buns with half of the melted butter.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the tops are golden.
  8. Remove from oven and brush with remaining melted butter.
