Flour Tortillas (5 Ingredients) Dairy Free
Cuisine: Mexican
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup water + 1 Tablespoon
  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, & salt together. Add in oil & water, & mix it up.
  2. Knead 5-6 times or until you can form a ball. (Depending on the brand of flour you may need to add more water or flour to get the right consistency).
  3. Cover dough & let it rest for 15-30 minutes (it makes it easier to work with).
  4. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium to medium/high heat.
  5. Break off enough dough to form a 1.5-2" ball (depending on the size you want your tortillas to be). Keep the rest of the dough covered so it doesn't dry out.
  6. Place on a floured surface. Flatten slightly with the palm of your hand. Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough to form a 6-8" diameter. You may need to keep sprinkling the dough with flour so the rolling pin doesn't stick to it. Roll out the dough very thin.
  7. Place in ungreased skillet for 15-30 seconds or until it starts to blister, then flip it over & cook the other side for the same amount of time.
  8. Transfer to a plate, cover loosely with foil so they stay soft & warm.
  9. Repeat process with the rest of the dough.
  10. If there are leftovers place them in a Ziploc bag & store in the refrigerator. Reheat for a few seconds in the microwave.
